1848, Transylvania. Avram Iancu raises a peasant army to defend the rights of the Romanian ethnics, while Nicolae Bălcescu tries a diplomatic approach.

Lieutenant Orloff, a recently graduated Russian officier, is making his way across the snow-covered steppes to the garrison where he is to be stationed. He comes across a man who has lost his way in the blizzard and takes him to the safety of an inn. Arriving at the garrison, Orloff meets and falls immediately in love with Macha, the daughter of his commander. The town is suddenly attacked by a hoard of bandits who claims to be the true Tsar of Russia.

Frederick Salomon, a war photojournalist who became worldwide famous for capturing the image of a girl flying through the air as consequence of an explosion, returns to the country where he took the celebrated picture twenty years before. He is back to receive an award, as many consider him an essential piece in the recent peace efforts in the troubled country. But a local journalist called Hanna doesn’t agree, and wants to kill him for a reason only Salomon knows.

A film crew arrives in Georgia’s mountainous Khevsureti region. Lali Mindeli, a famous pop singer and film star who wants to know more about her character, walks around in traditional Khevsurian costume and rides horses. During the making of the film, she meets Vakhtang, but instead of introducing herself she tells him that she is Lali’s twin sister. Vakhtang falls in love and says he is ready to move to Khevsureti, making Lali realize that she’s playing a risky game with him.

The film recreates the heroic epic of the defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942. The fall of 1941. Having broken through the defense at Perekop and seized Crimea, the fascist troops begin the siege of Sevastopol. The Soviet fleet is withdrawn to Novorossiysk. For the defense of Sevastopol remained only guns of ships, coastal batteries and several detachments of marines, the defense is led by General Petrov.

The action takes place on the southern outskirts of the country in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The film tells about the struggle of the Bolsheviks and Kyrgyz peasants against the rich Bais and Basmachi for a better, just life.
